Angelica Ross Perspective on Grand Theft Lover Cheat Code
Angelica Ross, most known for her acting roles in the FX hit series American Horror Story and Pose, has been showing fans another side of herself with the release of her now 3rd solo single release. Angelica collaborates with other songwriters and producers, but also takes pride in being able to self produce and write her own songs.
I grew up playing video games and searching the gaming magazines for the latest cheat codes. I wanted this song to bring up a lot of nostagia for us 80's babies and fans as well as those gamers who knew the "cheat codes" like "up, up, down, down, left, right, left, left". I wrote this song originally as one of my assignments in an online songwriting class I was taking from recording artist H.E.R. I then enlisted the help of artist Mondaii who added a rap verse and also helped me engineer our recording session in Logic Pro. These details are important because I am also a founder of a tech nonprofit that gives marginalized communities access to tech trainings and jobs. I show through example the power of learning tech skills and how tech can be the catalyst to help you make your creative aspirations a reality.
This song is for the gamers who play Grand Theft Auto, especially those who play Playstation. The hook is a play off the buttons on a playstation controller. "SQUARE one in a love TRIANGLE doing CIRCLEs still playing games with my X." Also for the folks who truly love a good 80's vibe, Grand Theft Lover "Cheat Code" passes the 80's vibe check.
